Molybdenum market update on December 23, 2025
Domestic molybdenum prices overall fluctuated within a narrow range, with ferromolybdenum prices increased by approximately RMB 3,000/ton, while molybdenum concentrate and ammonium heptamolybdate prices were approximately RMB 3,720 per tonne-degree and RMB 237,000/ton respectively. Under this market condition, trading activity in the market was average, with limited transaction volume.
From the bullish factors perspective, first, with steady steel tender demand, some steel enterprises raised ferromolybdenum procurement prices, prompting ferromolybdenum manufacturers to tentatively increase quotations; second, the recent relatively strong operation in the international molybdenum market has brought a certain boosting effect to the domestic molybdenum market; third, with relatively strong production cost support and limited increase in spot market supply, most holders maintained strong reluctance to sell while supporting prices.
From the bearish factors perspective, first, due to tight funding for downstream production enterprises and strong "buy on rise, not on fall" sentiment among traders, actual market transaction volume was low; second, although ferromolybdenum prices increased, the increase amplitude was small, thus difficult to drive synchronous upward movement in prices of other molybdenum products.
On the news front: Data from the China Iron and Steel Association show that in early December 2025, key statistical steel enterprises produced a total of 18.29 million tonnes of steel products, with an average daily output of 1.829 million tonnes, daily output decreased by 12.1% month-on-month. By region, Northeast region steel product daily output decreased by 48,000 tonnes, North China region steel product daily output decreased by 59,000 tonnes, East China region steel product daily output decreased by 66,000 tonnes, Southwest region steel product daily output decreased by 18,000 tonnes, Central and South China region steel product daily output decreased by 62,000 tonnes, and Northwest region steel product daily output increased by 2,000 tonnes.
