Molybdenum market update on December 16, 2025
The domestic molybdenum market overall maintained a sideways trend. Amid the interplay of favorable and unfavorable factors, negotiations between buyers and sellers were somewhat deadlocked, resulting in relatively low market trading activity, product prices fluctuating within a reasonable range, and a low actual transaction volume. Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and ammonium molybdate are approximately RMB 3,700 per ton-degree, RMB 238,000 per ton, and RMB 233,000 per ton, respectively.
From the perspective of favorable factors: first, against the backdrop of positive development momentum in downstream molybdenum industries, downstream production enterprises have a high awareness of purchasing at low prices, providing strong support for molybdenum product prices; second, constrained by production costs, suppliers have limited room for price concessions. Recently, steel enterprises that have entered the market to tender for ferromolybdenum include Zhejiang Dongte, Erzhong Equipment, Tsingshan Holding Group, Zhongyuan Special Steel Molybdenum, and Jiangsu Posco, among others.
From the perspective of unfavorable factors: first, compared with the previous two weeks, current molybdenum product prices are at relatively high levels. Coupled with tight market liquidity and insufficient confidence among industry players in the future market, downstream users have become more conservative in inquiries and procurement, constraining transaction volume; second, the international molybdenum market trend is weak, which is not conducive to the warming of the domestic molybdenum market; third, amid relatively ample market spot supply and strong wait-and-see sentiment among purchasers, suppliers have a higher inclination to take profits.
Regarding news: According to price monitoring data from the Jiangxi Steel Market and Fuzhou Trade Plaza Steel Market, among the 44 steel varieties monitored in November, sales prices showed 9 increases, 32 decreases, and 3 remained flat month-on-month. The average sales prices of wire rod (high wire 6.5, HPB300 and high wire 8, HPB300) were RMB 3,491.25 per ton and RMB 3,356.25 per ton, respectively, which decreased by 0.07% and 0.07% month-on-month, and decreased by 5.67% and 7.45% year-on-year. The average sales price of rebar (φ12mm HRB400E) was RMB 3,232.50 per ton, decreasing by 0.19% month-on-month and decreasing by 8.27% year-on-year.
