Molybdenum market update on December 11, 2025
The domestic molybdenum market overall maintained stable operation. Amid the interplay of bullish and bearish factors, traders showed relatively high enthusiasm for entering the market, product prices showed no obvious changes for the time being, and actual transaction volume was relatively satisfactory. Today, molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and molybdenum oxide prices were approximately RMB 3,720 per tonne-degree, RMB 240,000/ton, and RMB 3,820 per tonne-degree respectively.
From the bullish factors perspective, first, steel enterprises concentrated on entering the market to tender for ferromolybdenum, which to a large extent boosted market confidence; second, international molybdenum prices showed an oscillating upward trend, further strengthening industry players' expectations for favorable domestic molybdenum market operation; third, affected by the good development prospects of molybdenum downstream industries and the difficulty in increasing future spot supply, most traders hold certain expectations for the future market.
From the bearish factors perspective, first, steel enterprises have strong sentiment to press down ferromolybdenum procurement prices, which to a certain extent suppresses the upside space for molybdenum product prices; second, after molybdenum product prices slightly recovered, many suppliers showed obviously higher willingness to take profits and close positions.
On the news front, customs data show that in November 2025, China imported 496,000 tonnes of steel, decreased by 1.4% month-on-month, with an average price of USD 1,631.3/ton, decreased by 2.4% month-on-month; exported 9.98 million tonnes of steel, increased by 2.0% month-on-month, with an average price of USD 696.0/ton, increased by 1.7% month-on-month. From January to November, China cumulatively imported 5.541 million tonnes of steel, decreased by 10.5% year-on-year; cumulatively exported 107.717 million tonnes of steel, increased by 6.7% year-on-year.
