Molybdenum market update on September 29, 2025
The overall domestic molybdenum market remains lukewarm, characterized by limited price reduction margins from suppliers, low inquiry and procurement enthusiasm from downstream users, narrow price adjustments, and slow order growth. Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and ammonium heptamolybdate are approximately 4,430 yuan per ton-unit, 279,000 yuan per ton, and 4,540 yuan per ton-unit, respectively.
It is understood that with the National Day holiday atmosphere intensifying, some downstream enterprises have proactively slowed production to prepare for the break, compounded by ample raw material inventories and insufficient confidence in stable raw material market prices, leading to more cautious procurement decisions. Under continued pressure from steel enterprises to lower ferromolybdenum prices, intermediate smelting companies have generally reduced their quotes, further pushing down molybdenum concentrate prices.
In terms of news, according to the China Iron and Steel Association, in August 2025, the output of key statistical enterprises’ medium-thick plate mills, hot strip mills, and cold strip mills continued to increase year-on-year. Medium-thick plate mill production reached 6.85 million tons, increased by 8.2% year-on-year; cumulative production reached 51.17 million tons, increased by 4.4% year-on-year. Hot strip mill production reached 16.37 million tons, increased by 2.5% year-on-year; cumulative production reached 128.53 million tons, increased by 0.02% year-on-year. Cold strip mill production reached 7.00 million tons, increased by 8.2% year-on-year; cumulative production reached 53.83 million tons, increased by 0.1% year-on-year.
