Rare earth market update on September 1, 2025
At the beginning of the week, domestic rare earth prices remained locally stable with some minor fluctuations. The price of praseodymium-neodymium oxide decreased by approximately 8,000 yuan per ton, the price of terbium oxide increased by about 30 yuan per kilogram, and the price of holmium oxide decreased by around 10,000 yuan per ton. From the supply side, influenced by frequent high-temperature rainfall, stringent environmental enforcement and crackdowns, and higher production costs, the capacity release rate of some rare earth manufacturers has slowed. Coupled with strong inquiry and procurement enthusiasm from downstream users, the market’s spot supply volume has become even harder to increase. From the demand side, the current high rare earth prices have led to lower consumption initiative among some buyers. However, with the arrival of the "Golden September and Silver October" peak consumption season and robust growth in emerging industries, some downstream users continue to show willingness to procure, providing resilient support to the demand side.
In terms of news, according to the Baotou Municipal Industry and Information Technology Bureau, a newly constructed 5,000-ton rare earth functional additive pilot production line at the Baotou Rare Earth Research Institute has been officially completed and has entered the equipment commissioning phase, with full operation expected by the end of August. At the rare earth functional additive pilot production line site, a highly automated system acts like an invisible conductor, precisely managing the entire process from precise raw material dosing to final product packaging. In the central control room, operators monitor the entire production line’s operations in real time via high-definition screens. This fully automated intelligent rare earth functional additive pilot production line can produce rare earth heat stabilizers, rare earth flame retardants, and polylactic acid-modified polymer special materials and products, with a workforce of no more than five people across the entire production process and a daily output of 20 tons. The line also features a strict quality tracking system, ensuring full traceability of production data from the "first gate" of raw material intake to the "final link" of finished product packaging.
