Rare earth market update on August 12, 2025
The overall condition of the domestic rare earth market is moderate, primarily characterized by price fluctuations of most products within a reasonable range, low enthusiasm among traders for market engagement, and limited actual transaction volumes. Today, the prices of praseodymium oxide and praseodymium-neodymium metal increased by approximately 4,000 yuan per ton and 2,000 yuan per ton, respectively, while the prices of terbium oxide and dysprosium oxide remained stable at around 7,040 yuan per kilogram and 1,620,000 yuan per ton, respectively.
From the supply side, influenced by persistently weak downstream demand and significant production challenges, some rare earth manufacturers have reduced output. Additionally, tight overseas rare earth supply and high prices have limited the import volume of rare earth products into China, further constraining the increase in market spot supply. Customs data shows that the national rare earth import volume from January to July 2025 was 67,013.4 tons, decreased by 16.8% year-on-year. From the demand side, short-term market demand remains below expectations; however, from a long-term perspective, there is still growth potential for demand for rare earth raw materials.
In terms of news, according to the official WeChat account of China Rare Earth Group, recent reports from some online media have circulated information about “China Rare Earth Group collaborating with Ant Group and the People’s Bank of China to build the world’s first rare earth RMB stablecoin.” In response to this fabricated information, which seriously misleads the public and disrupts financial order, China Rare Earth Group Co., Ltd. issues the following solemn statement: Our company has never engaged in any form of cooperation, consultation, or planning with relevant institutions or entities regarding the so-called “rare earth RMB stablecoin.” This information is maliciously fabricated by lawbreakers, and the public and investors are urged not to believe or spread it.
