Rare earth market update on July 24, 2025
The overall market sentiment for domestic rare earths is rather chaotic, influenced by numerous uncertainties, leading to divergent price trends among mainstream light and heavy rare earth products: praseodymium-neodymium prices have seen significant increases, while dysprosium-terbium prices continue to weaken. Today, the prices of praseodymium-neodymium oxide and praseodymium-neodymium metal increased by approximately 17,000 yuan per ton and 10,000 yuan per ton, respectively; the prices of holmium oxide and dysprosium oxide decreased by approximately 8,000 yuan per ton and 10,000 yuan per ton, respectively.
In the light rare earth market, factors such as the rise in the transaction price of China Northern Rare Earth’s praseodymium-neodymium metal on July 23, moderate enthusiasm from magnetic material companies for procurement inquiries, and positive market expectations for the future have collectively driven praseodymium-neodymium prices higher. Driven by rising raw material prices, the prices of neodymium-iron-boron blanks and their scrap have also risen, showing a noticeable upward trend.
In the medium and heavy rare earth market, trading activity remains low. With prolonged weak downstream demand and tightening funding conditions, some suppliers are more willing to lower prices for sales; however, supported by production costs, the room for price declines is limited.
According to the Baotou Rare Earth Products Exchange, on July 23, 2025, the online transaction results for China Northern Rare Earth’s praseodymium-neodymium metal were as follows: the transaction price was 579,500 yuan per ton for 100 tons, an increase of 7,500 yuan per ton compared to 572,000 yuan per ton on July 22.
