Molybdenum market update on May 26, 2025
At the beginning of the week, the domestic molybdenum price focus continued to shift upward, with molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and ammonium heptamolybdate prices increasing by approximately 30 yuan/ton-degree, 4,000 yuan/ton, and 1,000 yuan/ton, respectively. This is primarily attributed to high enthusiasm from steel companies bidding for ferromolybdenum, acceptable steel tender prices, limited spot supply of molybdenum raw materials, and rising international molybdenum market trends. Recently, steel companies participating in ferromolybdenum tenders include Shanxi Taigang, Baosteel Desheng, Xinyu Steel, Shouguang Juneng Special Steel, China First Heavy Industries, Erzhong Equipment, and Shougang Qian'an Steel, with tender prices around 237,000 yuan/ton.
According to the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA), in mid-May 2025, key statistical steel enterprises produced 21.99 million tons of crude steel, with an average daily output of 219.9 tons, down 0.3% day-on-day; 19.82 million tons of pig iron, with an average daily output of 198.2 tons, down 0.4% day-on-day; and 21.24 million tons of steel products, with an average daily output of 212.4 tons, up 1.9% day-on-day. Based on this, the estimated national daily output for this period is 2.79 million tons of crude steel, down 0.3% month-on-month; 2.39 million tons of pig iron, down 0.4% month-on-month; and 4.16 million tons of steel products, up 1.0% month-on-month.
