Rare earth market update on March 31, 2025
At the beginning of the week, the prices of domestic rare earth products were partially stable, with some rising slightly. Among them, the price of terbium oxide rose by about 70 yuan, the price of holmium oxide rose by about 3,000 yuan, and the price of dysprosium oxide rose by about 10,000 yuan. This is mainly due to the earthquake in Myanmar on March 31, which may have caused certain damage to mine roads, power systems and mining and smelting equipment, resulting in some local rare earth manufacturers to reduce production and stop production, which is not conducive to the increase in my country's rare earth product imports, and the confidence of many suppliers to raise their quotations has also increased. However, it is worth noting that downstream demand is still weak, so traders should operate with caution. Myanmar is an important global supplier of rare earths, accounting for 11% of its output in 2023, and is a key source of China's medium and heavy rare earth imports. From January to September 2024, China imported 31,000 tons of rare earth oxides from Myanmar, accounting for 74.9% of total imports.
According to the information from the Baotou Industry and Information Technology Bureau, in January and February 2025, the city's 5 million special subsidies effectively stimulated automobile consumption, with retail sales of automobiles above the limit increasing by 39.3% year-on-year; retail sales of household appliances above the limit increased by 74.0%; retail sales of cultural and office supplies and communication equipment above the limit increased by 15.4% and 122.8% respectively.
