Molybdenum market update on March 28, 2025
This week, domestic molybdenum price exhibited an overall trend of fluctuating upward movement, primarily attributed to strong reluctance to sell and bullish sentiment among molybdenum mining companies in recent days, rising steel tender prices, steady downstream demand, and a relatively favorable non-ferrous metals market. However, as molybdenum product prices increased, downstream users became more cautious due to heightened price concerns, and with limited liquidity, market demand struggled to grow further.
According to China Tungsten Online, the current price of molybdenum concentrate rose by approximately 80 yuan compared to last week, an increase of 2.41%; ferromolybdenum prices increased by about 4,000 yuan, a rise of 1.83%; sodium molybdate prices went up by around 1,000 yuan, a gain of 0.64%; ammonium heptamolybdate prices rose by approximately 2,000 yuan, an increase of 0.64%; molybdenum powder prices increased by about 5 yuan, a rise of 1.25%; and molybdenum oxide prices went up by around 70 yuan, a gain of 2.03%. This indicates that the price increase for molybdenum raw materials this week outpaced that of molybdenum chemical products.
Data from the World Steel Association shows that in February 2025, crude steel production across 69 countries and regions included in the association’s statistics totaled 144.7 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 3.4%. Among these, Africa’s crude steel production was 1.9 million tons, up 7.6% year-on-year; Asia and Oceania produced 107.3 million tons, down 2.6% year-on-year; the European Union (27 countries) produced 10.1 million tons, down 7.1% year-on-year; other European countries produced 3.3 million tons, down 9.7% year-on-year; the Middle East produced 3.7 million tons, down 11.5% year-on-year; North America produced 8.2 million tons, down 6.3% year-on-year; Russia, other CIS countries, and Ukraine produced 6.7 million tons, down 1.9% year-on-year; and South America produced 3.4 million tons, down 3.2% year-on-year.
