Molybdenum market update on March 27, 2025
The overall focus of domestic molybdenum price continues to shift slightly upward, with molybdenum concentrate prices rising by approximately 20 yuan per ton-degree, breaking through the 3,400 yuan per ton-degree threshold, while ferromolybdenum and molybdate prices each increased by about 1,000 yuan per ton. Under these circumstances, price negotiations among traders have intensified, mainly reflected in smaller price increase margins and a reduction in downstream inquiries.
According to China Tungsten Online, the main reasons driving this upward movement in molybdenum product prices are as follows: First, rising steel prices and sustained strong demand for steel have, in turn, boosted ferromolybdenum prices. Second, the recent price increases in non-ferrous metals such as copper, cobalt, and antimony have positively contributed to the recovery of the molybdenum market. Third, the significant decline in molybdenum raw material prices earlier, coupled with the current relatively low molybdenum prices, has created strong cost support, with suppliers showing a strong reluctance to sell, further pushing prices upward.
Data from the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) shows that in mid-March 2025, key monitored steel enterprises produced a total of 21.66 million tons of crude steel, with an average daily output of 2.166 million tons, up 1.6% month-on-month; pig iron output reached 19.27 million tons, with an average daily output of 1.927 million tons, up 2.1% month-on-month; and steel product output totaled 21.12 million tons, with an average daily output of 2.112 million tons, up 5.3% month-on-month.
